Three companies have received our Employer Charter accreditation for their high standards of excellence.

The charter is based around four commitments by employers: to pay all staff the Real Living Wage; employ North Lanarkshire residents; use local businesses in the supply chain where possible; and ensure fair work practices which attract and retain employees.

Businesses which achieve two or more of these commitments receive a bronze, silver or gold accreditation. Membership of the charter is free.

“I would like to congratulate everyone involved at these companies on the award, which recognises their commitment to investing in employees, being a positive employer and a responsible business,” said North Lanarkshire Provost Kenneth Duffy.

“The Employer Charter delivers benefits for both employers and employees as well as supporting our continuing work to develop a sustainable, diverse economy in North Lanarkshire.”

The Indeglås team in Cumbernauld are qualified in interior design, engineering, surveying and health and safety and have over 70 years of industry experience. The business specialises in bespoke design, installation, and maintenance, providing architects, designers and construction companies with advanced industry knowledge, and solutions to transfer light to the heart of buildings.

Managing Director and founder, Jeanette MacIntyre, was formally recognised in June 2021, by the School of Arts and Creative Industries at Edinburgh Napier University, inducted into its prestigious Hall of Fame, in tribute to her creative talent and as an acknowledgement to the significant contribution she has made to the built environment sector.

Ideglas has been awarded a Silver Award.

Enevate Homes in Wishaw (founded in 2016 with headquarters in Dartford) are a leading independent provider of modular homes. Last year they saw turnover increase from £3.9 million to £8.5 million (118%). With the modular housing industry in the UK largely operating at a loss, Enevate have been experiencing recent high demand for their services, bringing renewed hope that modular can deliver a significant proportion of new homes.

Enevate works with many housing associations across the UK, building excellent quality homes at a very quick speed whilst using a greener approach than traditional construction methods. They can produce an average sized family home in just 30 days at their factory, where everything from fitting bathrooms, stairs, and windows to the finishing work like painting and fitting skirting boards is completed before being shipped off to site by truck and landed by crane.

Enevate Homes work with local schools and North Lanarkshires Working on recruitment, regularly holding tours and information events for school leavers looking to move into construction. In 2022, Shona Robison, Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice and Local Government, visited the factory and asked about offering opportunities to Ukrainian refugees; to date, they have two Ukrainian nationals working with them.

Enevate Homes has been awarded a Silver award.

McTaggart Construction are part of the McTaggart Group, a family of six companies, with McTaggart Construction being the most prominent. Based in Glasgow, the company have contracts in North Lanarkshire so are eligible for the Employer Charter scheme. The Group’s original routes go back to 1946, and they currently employee around 300 members of staff.

The company builds over 750 new homes each year, 90% of which are for the affordable housing sector. The business is involved in land and development, design and engineering, construction and customer care.

The business is currently delivering a number of social housing projects on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council and have made great efforts to meet or even exceed their community benefits targets. They have worked with teachers and support staff, adapted learning material and taken part in employer engagement sessions with the council’s additional support schools and helped pupils achieve CSCS accreditations. They are also working with the young people to gain further training and help them into employment.
