Scope of the Environmental Health Service

 

The services that are provided by the Environmental Health Service are detailed in the downloadable at schedule 1: Environmental Health Core Activities and include:

 

  • Investigation of Environmental Health enquiries and requests for service
  • Pest control advice and treatments
  • Comprehensive Dog Warden Service
  • Dog Fouling enforcement
  • Houses in Multiple Occupation licensing
  • Private Sector Landlord registration
  • Private Sector housing enforcement
  • Environmental Protection Service – including fly tipping, littering, fly posting and waste enforcement
  • Prohibition of Smoking Enforcement
  • Advice/Guidance to the Private Sector/Voluntary Groups
  •  Contaminated land strategy and enforcement
  • Air quality strategy and enforcement
  • Waste strategy development
  • Pollution control enforcement, includes noise abatement

The service delivery points are currently located at:

453 Main Street, Coatbridge

Dalziel Building, 7 Scott Street, Motherwell

 

The normal business hours are 8.45 – 16.45 Monday to Thursday with a 16.15 close on Fridays. There is however an Environmental Health stand-by service in place to respond to all emergencies, including Health and Safety incidents, outwith normal operational hours. A Pest Control stand-by service operates during the summer months when peak demand is experienced.

 

Performance Planning

The demands on the service for the 2008/2009 year, and the targets which have been set for each of the key service areas are detailed within the download plan at schedule 2 : Environmental Health Performance Plan 2008/2009, schedule 3 : Housing Regulation Performance Plan 2008/2009, schedule 4: Environmental Protection Performance Plan 2008/2009 and schedule 5: Pollution Control Performance Plan 2008/2009. Monitoring against these key targets will be undertaken on a quarterly basis as part of the review process, and reasons shall be recorded for any non-conformance.
