Local authorities are required to consider their long term strategy for providing and funding support services from April 2003.
Under Section 89 of the Housing (Scotland) Act 2001, Scottish Minister require local authorities to undertake an assessment of housing needs and conditions and produce a Local Housing Strategy (LHS). The Supporting People Strategic Plan will form Part 2 of the LHS.
The Strategic Planning Group's role is to:
- Ensure, though the Local Housing Strategy, that the Supporting People Strategic Plan is linked with other plans, such as the Community Plan, Community Care Plan, Social Inclusion Strategy, Health Improvement Plan, homelessness and domestic abuse strategies, etc;
- Ensure Strategic Plans are produced on time;
- Ensure stakeholders, customers and community interests are taken into account in drawing up the Strategic Plan;
- Ensure goals, objectives, programmes, and action plans are developed in line with the clear vision set by the Core Co-ordination Group; and
- Review and implement the Strategic Plan.
