Foreword
We are pleased to present the first Lanarkshire Criminal Justice Social Work Plan to you. Although the Plan aims to meet the objectives of the Scottish Executive's "Tough Option" agenda, it also reflects the shared history of the Lanarkshire Authorities and the evolving joint agenda which we have developed.
We recognise that working in partnership can promote better use of scarce resources and more effective and efficient relationships with key stakeholders. However we share a commitment to ensuring that the operational service is accountable through elected members to the communities in which it is provided and in particular contributes to the Community Safety and Social Inclusion Strategies of each local authority area.
We welcome the opportunity we have had to consult on the Plan and the fact that the feedback has been positive about what we aim to do. It will be our responsibility to ensure that stakeholders continue to feel as positively about developments as services develop and in that context the Joint Planning Forum will meet regularly to oversee the emerging agenda.
Finally we would like to thank all the staff who contributed to the preparation of the Plan and particularly to those colleagues from the Social Work Planning Sections whose hard work has produced such comprehensive material in such a short timescale.
