..... a new source of information and best practices aimed at promoting alternative and healthier methods for travel within North Lanarkshire. |

|
Travelling in and around North Lanarkshire couldn't be easier, healthier and more environmentally friendly thanks to the launch of SMARTways.
SMARTways aims to promote Walking, Cycling, Public Transport, Car Sharing and Healthy Activities within North Lanarkshire in line with the Scottish Government's 'Choose Another Way' campaign.

SMARTways also introduces North Lanarkshire to 'Travel Plans' and explains how these can benefit the health and wealth of residents, school, colleges and businesses. Travel Plans can also assists in protecting the environment for future generations to enjoy by reducing the volume of traffic using out roads.
SMARTways is not anti car!
On the contrary the car is an essential part of every day life. SMARTways aims to reduce the number of single occupancy journeys and this can be achieved by car sharing or using other methods for your journey.
North Lanarkshire Council is an active member of The National Travelwise Association. It is one of 17 Scottish Local Authority to join the Association (there are now 112 members across the UK) and currently represents Scotland on the National Executive.
SMARTways aims to encompass the aims of the NTWA.
