Welcome to North Lanarkshire Council's Performance Report for 2005-2006.
In the report you will find details of how we performed against the targets we set in our performance plan: the plan for the second year of our Corporate Plan 2004 to 2008. The corporate plan sets out the main priorities we want to address as a council for the area and the people of North Lanarkshire.
Thanks to the continued commitment of our workforce and elected members we have delivered on almost all of our key targets. For example, our £150 million public private partnership – Education 2010 – is well underway. This year we opened another shared campus school, started work on an additional nine schools and continued refurbishment of three secondary schools. The council has also further developed more personalised care services, made communities safer through the implementation of our Antisocial Behaviour Strategy, achieved substantial increases in the volume of waste recycled and made significant improvements to our local environment and town centres through various improvement projects.
Included in the pack for the first time is the annual report from the North Lanarkshire Partnership. This partnership, led by the council, is fully supported by Strathclyde Police, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, NHS Lanarkshire, Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire, Communities Scotland, Job Centre Plus, our further education colleges and representatives of the voluntary sector. As you will see from the report the partnership has continued to make excellent progress to better join up services and drive forward programmes which support the economic, environmental and social regeneration of the area. In particular, the introduction of the six local area partnerships is an extremely welcome development which will take this partnership working to a more local level and ensure that we successfully build on the considerable progress which has been made to date.
We hope you find the report informative and interesting.
