Performance Report 2004 - 2005

Foreword

Welcome to North Lanarkshire Council's Performance Report for 2004 to 2005.

In the report you'll find details of how we performed against the targets we set in our performance plan: the plan for the first year of our Corporate Plan 2004 to 2008.

The corporate plan sets out the main things we want to achieve for the area and the people of North Lanarkshire. The results of the residents' survey and the community plan helped us identify seven priority themes, and to develop aims and actions to help us deliver these priorities. This report details the progress we have made.

In 2004-2005 Audit Scotland praised our commitment to improving customer service through our First Stop Shops and customer contact centre. In a customer survey 84% of respondents said the overall service had improved. And 78% said that their enquiry was satisfactorily resolved during their visit.

This year we had good news about the development at Ravenscraig when the second of two court cases found in favour of our proposals. This news represents a tremendous opportunity for the people of Lanarkshire. The development at Ravenscraig will bring 9,000 new jobs, 3,500 new homes, new schools, improved transport, better leisure facilities and a new town centre.

Our Education 2010 project is well under way and we look forward to building at least 24 new schools and refurbishing three more.

We hope you find the report informative.
