Archiving Policy
North Lanarkshire Council recognises the importance of records management and archiving. As an authority we aim to comply with relevant standards in order to ensure the effective management of records throughout their lifecycle.
We are currently developing retention schedules across all departments in order to ensure that records are managed effectively and those records identified as being of historical importance are kept and transferred to the archives service. Formal steps have been taken to ensure compliance with the Code of Practice for Records Management and the Model Action Plan for Records Management issued by the Scottish Executive, including the drafting of a records management policy.
North Lanarkshire Council has a central store, which combines as a facility for non-current records still required for business and legislative reasons, as well as the historical archives store.
