Planning & Environment Service Improvement Plan 2004-05 to 2006-07

Executive Summary

The following pages contain Planning and Environment's Service Improvement Plan Update for the period 2004-05 to 2006-07. This document will guide the department's future activity and will respond to six strategic and operational issues. These are:

  • Issue one: developing our staff
  • Issue two: service improvement and modernisation
  • Issue three: regeneration
  • Issue four: funding
  • Issue five: responding to new legislation and national policy development
  • Issue six: developing and reviewing plans.

We plan to focus on these issues by tracking them with six associated planned improvement actions:

  1. Develop our staff by ensuring that services are structured and resourced with skilled employees to deliver performance driven and dynamic services to meet customers needs

  2. Improve and modernise service delivery by continuing to implement the department's framework for service improvement

  3. Facilitate and promote the regeneration of North Lanarkshire through the development and implementation of local strategies and plans in partnership economic development agencies, in line with North Lanarkshire's Economic Regeneration Framework

  4. Increase external funding by identifying and maximising opportunities for levering external sources of finance, including European and Lottery funding, to fund regeneration projects

  5. Ensure services are aligned with national policy developments and comply with national legislation

  6. Review the Strategic Framework within which we operate and ensure our activities are appropriately aligned to achieve the North Lanarkshire Partnership key objectives

These are supported by 29 detailed key actions, which will be delivered by our five departmental services.
