The Council has adopted an Enforcement Concordat which sets out principles for the way we deal with businesses over which we have enforcement power, such as licensing or food safety.
The Concordat sets standards clearly outlining the level of service the public and business people can expect to receive. It encourages fair and open regulation and commits us to ensuring our enforcement servcies work with business to assist them comply with the law.
The principles of Enforcement Concordat are:
- openness – we will provide information and advice in plain language on the rules that apply and will disseminate this as widely as possible
- helpfulness – we will work with business to help them comply with relevant regulations
- complaints about service – we will provide well publicised, effective and timely complaints procedures that are easily accessible to business, the public, employees and consumer groups
- compliance costs are minimised - we will ensure any action we take will be proportionate to the risks and, as far as the law allows, we will take account of the business when considering action
- duties will be carried out in a fair and consistent manner
We will train appropriate staff and monitor implementation of the Concordat in order to support the businesses of North Lanarkshire and assist them comply with necessary legislative requirements.
