The diagram below gives a snapshot of North Lanarkshire's position as at the end of 2004 using a range of indicators. It summarises in one illustration both its relative position and also how it is changing relative to Scotland. Overall life is improving for the people of North Lanarkshire, both in absolute terms and relative to Scotland. On the measures selected here we are improving faster than Scotland on 16 indicators, stable on 6 and falling back on 7.
Some of the data used will always be a bit out of date and there can also be difficulty reading too much into yearly changes in long term trends. We feel however that this is a reasonable approach to giving an overall appreciation of how we compare and how things are changing .
