Social Inclusion Strategy
'Promoting Social Inclusion – A Comprehensive Approach' is North Lanarkshire Council's Social Inclusion Strategy emphasising it's commitment to creating an 'Inclusive North Lanarkshire'. The Strategy document, which mirrors the targets and milestones as laid out by the Scottish Executive in their Social Justice Action Plan, includes details of what the Council has already achieved, but more importantly sets out targets for the next three years.
The Strategy will be updated on an annual basis with a new plan being produced every three years. The Council since it's inception has had a strong commitment to anti poverty work and continues to support this both through the Strategy and by ensuring that social inclusion is a central theme of the Corporate Plan.
Community Safety Strategy
Community Safety is one of the key themes of the North Lanarkshire Community Plan and strategies to address some priority issues are being developed by the Community Safety Partnership. These issues include Home Safety, Transport Safety and Domestic Violence.
The overall aim is to improve the quality of life for the people of North Lanarkshire by reducing crime and the fear of crime, reducing accidents and creating a safe and secure environment in which to live, work and invest.

Public Access Strategy This Access Strategy has been prepared in response to proposed new legislation on access in Scotland. It provides a vision and action plan to guide the planning and development of access in North Lanarkshire. Crucial to implementation of the Strategy will be the formation of a Public Access Forum comprising various interest and community representatives. Public access can fulfil a aspects of creating sustainable communities, for example, it can help foster a stronger sense of community, giving socially excluded people the opportunity to participate. It encourages healthier lifestyles, provide safe and sustainable alternatives to car use, particularly for local journeys to work, shops and schools. Access can also contribute positively to environmental improvements, and can ensure that new developments are accessible to all members of the community. Implementation will be through a partnership approach involving statutory bodies and agencies, local authority departments, and voluntary and community groups.
