North Lanarkshire Community Learning & Development Strategy 2004- 2008 - Introduction & Contents

It is with great pleasure that I introduce to you the Community Learning and Development Strategy for North Lanarkshire.

This strategy will run for four years and will be tied closely to the Community Plan theme of 'Learning through Life'.

The document is a good example of Partnership in action. It brings together the shared aims and objectives of many organisations and focuses their attention on important areas for development. The production of the strategy included detailed consultation with the various partner organisations as well as with the users and prospective users of services.

The key themes of Community Learning & Development are to promote personal learning and development, to build capacity within our communities for self-help and to increase involvement in the democratic process at all levels.

I am convinced that the actions and the ethos of this strategy will help us substantially in building strong vibrant, communities and will enable many individuals to achieve their learning potential.

I wish the Partnership every success over the next four years and I commend the strategy to you.

Councillor Jim McCabe
Leader – North Lanarkshire Council
