Item 1: Housing and Environment Theme progress
T McKenzie gave a presentation (copy attached) on the latest progress with the wide range of actions across this strategic theme.
He began by recapping on the Community Plan's vision for this theme, the partnership's long term aims and the key objectives and priorities between 2004 and 2008.
He outlined progress to date under a series of headings.
Partnership working had improved exemplified through the work of the Local Housing Strategy Steering Group, Public Access Forum, the joint North and South Lanarkshire Board on waste management, the derelict land strategy group and joint activity on energy efficiency.
There had been increased investment through the Lanarkshire Community Energy Partnership, joint work between the Council and private utilities and improved impact through combining NLP partner resources.
Better targeting had provided improvements including investment in recycling and waste management with new staff, facilities and vehicles and civic amenity sites.
Increased resident participation has helped deliver a £4 million programme of community regeneration, part of which has resulted in a UK national award for joint work in Old Monkland in Coatbridge. He also outlined the significant contribution being made to work in other strategic themes, particularly Health, Wellbeing and Care and Jobs, Business and the Economy. This included the reclamation of derelict and contaminated land for business and community use. In conclusion, Tom distributed a handout which provided further details of the breadth of action in hand by the partnership.
The Chair invited questions. J Hunt made reference to the Public Access Strategy implementation enquiring about funding arrangements for projects in Cumbernauld and Croy. A detailed written response will be provided.
G Whitefield referred to progress with Ravenscraig and the development of detailed planning briefs. This is being led by the Council's Planning and Environment Department, and this could feed into the annual reporting on this theme.
D Pigott welcomed the progress made and the fact that this work was integrated with that of other themes.
The Chair thanked Tom and the Board noted his report.
