North Lanarkshire Council's road service is undertaking major investment, estimated around £350,000, to improve the old and failing drainage system on the A71 at Horsley Brae. And during this time a road closure has to be put in place to ensure that the road improvements can be carried out safely and effectively.
The roadworks are scheduled to start on Monday June 5th and are scheduled to last approximately six weeks. Width restrictions on the main road mean these works will have to be carried out under a temporary road closure.
Diversion signs will be put in place and the diversion route is via Law. During the closure access will be allowed, wherever possible, to residential properties during the working day.
Jim Kelly, Network Team Leader explained, "Motorists may have already seen activity at this location, as preparatory work has taken place and is now complete.
"We're now moving on to the replacement of the drainage which unavoidably involves a road closure. The roadworks will start after the holiday weekend and will also cover part of the school holidays, so we hope that we can minimise any disruption experienced by motorists.
"However, I would advise motorists that delays should be expected and that extra time should be allowed for journeys.
"These road works not only mark significant investment by the council but will also have a positive impact and increase road safety."
