National strike affects council services

Council services across North Lanarkshire look set to be affected next week as public sector workers across the UK go on strike in response to government proposals concerning the Local Government Pension Scheme.

A total of ten trade unions - under the banner Unions Together Fighting to Protect Our Pensions - last week announced a one-day all-out strike on Tuesday (28 March). This will have the potential to affect every council service provided across the country, including those in North Lanarkshire.

Chief Executive of North Lanarkshire Council, Gavin Whitefield, said:

"While this is very much a national issue, affecting councils the length and breadth of the country, we are committed to doing all we can to minimise disruption at a local level on 28 March.

"As details of the services affected become clearer we will pass that information on to service users, keeping residents as fully informed as possible over the coming days.

"The situation however will be extremely changeable, and I would urge anyone who intends to use a council service on Tuesday to check its availability beforehand."

Information on how services could be affected will be made available on the council's website as soon as it is available.
