Volunteers are needed in North Lanarkshire to help children and young people through the Children’s Panel Advisory Committee (CPAC).
This call for volunteers comes from John Maguire, the newly appointed Chair of the North Lanarkshire CPAC following a successful recruitment campaign for members of the Children's Panel for North Lanarkshire.
The role of the Children's Panel involves making decisions about the well-being of children and young people in certain circumstances. The committee has an integral part to play in the operation of Children's Hearings in North Lanarkshire. It is charged with recommending the appointment and re‑appointment of panel members to Scottish Ministers and monitoring panel members' performance. The CPAC also advises the Scottish Executive on matters concerning the administration of the Children's Hearing system.
Commenting on the appeal for new members, John Maguire, Chair of the North Lanarkshire CPAC said:
"We presently have vacancies for one committee member and two sub‑committee members. Membership of the CPAC is a rewarding voluntary role which would suit people who enjoy working as part of a team. No formal qualifications are required as training is provided. However, an understanding of the ethos of the Children's Hearing system would be helpful, as would experience of interviewing and giving feedback".
