The winners of the school categories were presented with a trophy, a certificate and a £1,000 cheque while the runners up received a certificate and a £500 cheque for their school.

The Scottish Education Awards were first launched in November 2001 with the specific aims of celebrating the successes and recognising the achievements taking place within Scottish education. The awards are sponsored by the Scottish Government, the Scottish Daily Record, BT Scotland and are supported by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).

Entry to the Awards is open to all publicly funded schools, including secondary, primary, nursery and special schools. There is a wide variety of school categories to enter which link to key policy initiatives such as International Education, Health & Wellbeing and Determined to Succeed. There are also individual categories which seek to recognise the dedication and commitment of teaching staff and education supporters.
