Temporary road closure at Ravenscraig

As part of the ongoing development of the Ravenscraig regeneration site, Balfour Beatty Construction Ltd is carrying out major infrastructure works to form development platforms, construct access roads and install services.

To facilitate those works two roads will need to close temporarily. The closure runs officially from 00:01 hours on Monday 21 January until 23:59 hours on Sunday 30 March, however works are expected to take six weeks from the date of commencement.

New Craig Road and Robberhall Road, which form the spine road through the site, will therefore close from the roundabout south of the site at the junction of Craigneuk St and Robberhall Road, to the roundabout at the north of the site at the junction of New Craig Road and Motherwell Road/Merry Street.

"The council understands that road closures can cause frustrations among road users," said Planning and Transportation Convener Councillor James Coyle. "However these are necessary infrastructure works essential to the continuing development of a site that will have profound benefits to the people in the Motherwell and Wishaw areas and beyond, and we must support them in every way possible.

"We will do everything in our power to ensure the works are completed as quickly as possible and that disruptions are kept to the absolute minimum. In the meantime we would ask drivers using these roads to be aware that there may be delays and to plan ahead accordingly. We also thank them in advance for their patience and co-operation, which will help ensure the works finish in the shortest possible time."

A clearly signed diversion route, including an alternative route for vehicles over 15' (4.6m), will be in place during this period.
