Councillor Jim McCabe, Leader of North Lanarkshire Council today expressed his delight that Glasgow's bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games was successful.
Speaking from the Old Fruitmarket, where he watched the decision live on a big screen link from Sri Lanka, Councillor McCabe said:
"I am delighted that Glasgow's bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games has been successful as this will have positive outcomes for the whole of Scotland and my congratulations go to everyone involved.
"I am especially proud that North Lanarkshire has played a part in the bid and shares success in today's decision as our very own Strathclyde Country Park will host the triathlon during the Games.
"We have supported this bid from day one and, now that we know the outcome, we will continue to work as part of committed team to take forward our plans for what we now know will definitely be Glasgow 2014.
"Glasgow 2014 is sure to be a terrific event – you only have to look at the support the bid achieved – and today we'll let the news sink in and then get to work on delivering the best Commonwealth Games ever.
"We did it!"
