Scheme of Administration

North Lanarkshire Council has a wide range of functions and it is not feasible for all decisions regarding these functions to be taken by the Council as a whole. Section 56 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 provides that, subject to some exceptions, the Council may arrange for the discharge of any of their functions by a Committee of the Council, a Sub-Committee of the Council, an officer of the Council or by any other local authority in Scotland. The Council has made use of this power and has delegated to Committees and Sub-Committees authority to take decisions on behalf of the Council. All of this is set out in the Scheme of Administration approved by the Council.
