Question: How can I contact my Councillor? Answer: The Councillor Information System (CoINS) includes a list of councillors. Click on the link for your Councillor to view their contact details, political affiliation, committee membership and surgery information.

Question: How do I find contact information for Council departments? Answer: The majority of pages on NorthWeb have a "Contact Us" box which appears at the top right hand side of the screen. This gives the postal address(es), telephone number(s) and email address(es) for that service, whether delivered locally or through one central office.

Question: Where can I find information about Council meetings? Answer: The Councillor Information System (CoINS) includes a programme of meetings for each Council committee and a weekly programme of meetings is also published on NorthWeb. The Minutes Reporting and Agenda System (MARS) allows you to search for and download committee papers.

Question: How can I access frequently asked questions for particular services? Answer: From Level 2 down, a number of links display just under the Level 1 buttons, including a FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) link.

Clicking on this link will display a list of questions which relate to services within that Level 2 area. Click on the question you want and the answer will display.

Question: How do I find recent or important content? Answer: There are 2 ways to do this.
Firstly, when you click on a Level 1 area or channel ie Living Here, you are presented with 2 lists which show pages in that area of NorthWeb which have been:-
- Marked as important, or
- Updated or added in the last 7 days.

Alternatively, from Level 2 down, a number of links display just under the Level 1 tabs, including Latest Content and What's Important hyperlinks (view sample image above).
Clicking on these links will display a list of pages within that Level 2 area which have been:-
- Marked as important, or
- Updated or added in the last 14 days.

Question: How can I access downloadable forms and publications on NorthWeb? Answer: There are 2 ways to do this.
Firstly, from Level 2 down, a number of links display just under the Level 1 tabs, including a List of Publications hyperlink. (view sample image above).
Clicking on this link will display a list of publications and forms which are available for download or within that Level 2 area. Click on the document you want to download. Alternatively, if you would prefer the information to be posted out to you, select which publications you would like by clicking on the Post box at the side of each publication. Then complete your name and postal address details at the bottom of the form, click on the submit button and the documents requested will be sent to you.

Alternatively, downloadable information is also attached to individual web pages within NorthWeb. If a page has downloadable information, a "Download or Request by Post" box will appear at the top right hand side of the screen.

If you click on the hyperlink for the document you require, you will be directed to a page that allows you to either download it or request that it be posted out to you by completing your name and postal address details at the bottom of the form then clicking on the submit button. The document requested will be sent to you.

Question: What formats are downloadable files saved in? Answer: The following file formats are used for our downloadable files:-
- .pdf – Portable Data Format
– Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader (free software) to view and print PDF files
- .rtf – Rich Text Format
– A common text format which is can be opened by most word processing packages.
- .doc – Word Document
– Generally requires Microsoft Word (v97+) (licensed software) to open.

Question: How do I access links to other websites? Answer: There are hundreds of links to other websites throughout NorthWeb. Some will be set as hyperlinks within the text of a web page to allow you to click and visit as you are reading our pages. The majority will appear in an External Links box which will appear at the right hand side of your screen. All our links to other websites open into a separate browser window.

Question: Are there any maps for Council facilities? Answer: Over 500 Council facilities have been mapped. Visit our main Council Facility Location Maps page to view complete lists. In addition, web pages that refer to a particular council facility may display a map link for that particular facility in a box at the right hand side of your screen.

Question: What facilities do you have for non-Enqlish speaking visitors to NorthWeb? Answer: NorthWeb currently has a hyperlink to the Babelfish free web translator. This allows you to translate blocks of text or entire web pages from English to any of the following languages:-
Chinese - French - German - Italian - Japanese - Korean - Portuguese - Spanish
We are also currently preparing a page in each of the main written ethnic minority languages in North Lanarkshire. This will:-
- advise that North Lanarkshire Council can arrange for a confidential, professional interpreting service, whether customers telephone, visit our offices or even write to us;
- provide contact information for our departmental administrative headquarters; and
- give details of how to arrange for translation of any of the pages on NorthWeb.
Question: What other features are available through NorthWeb? Answer: In addition to providing lots of information about Council and other public services, NorthWeb also provides the following features:-
- Cinema Listings - links to central Scotland cinema websites containing up-to-date listings and booking information..
- Helpline Telephone Numbers - link to a website providing an online search facility containing contact details for over 1,000 helplines in the UK.
- Hospital Visiting Hours - links to local hospital web pages detailing their patient visiting arrangements.
- Public Transport Information - links to a range of public transport websites including airlines, bus, coach and rail.
- RoadWatch - links to websites providing useful information on road works and traffic conditions.
- Sunrise/Sunset - link to a website containing sunrise/sunset information.
- Weather Links - links to a range of weather websites, providing national and local forecasts.
- What's On - a searchable directory for all North Lanarkshire events and entertainment.
