In the Council's Corporate Plan, issues such as poverty, discrimination and inequality are recognised as requiring a comprehensive and co-ordinated approach to address them effectively. Accordingly, our policies and actions are focused on striving for a better quality of life and access to opportunities for all residents of North Lanarkshire.
The Council recognises its civic leadership role, democratic mandate and position as provider of local services and that it has a unique and key role in tackling social exclusion. Preventing social exclusion is core business. The Council aims to remove barriers to participating in everyday life and improve access to our services, which in turn meet the needs of our residents.
The Council, recognising the impact of social exclusion on many of the residents, has decided to publish a three-year strategy, which will be updated yearly. This outlines the main actions that will be taken to ensure social inclusion for all locally.
The Council has, as planned, produced the Social Justice Milestones Update 2002-03 to the above Strategy 'Promoting Social Inclusion - A Comprehensive Approach'. This details the considerable achievements made by the Council in tackling social inclusion issues over the first year of the Strategy and highlights actions planned for 2002-2004.
