Race Equality Scheme 2005 - 2008

Three years ago, in November 2002, we published the council's first Race Equality Scheme and an action plan detailing how we were going to implement it. Three years on, we have carried out a major review of our scheme and it is my pleasure to introduce you to this review and our plans for taking it forward over the next three years to 2008.

As well as our Race Equality Scheme, we have recently introduced a Community Engagement Strategy, which we hope will assist us to create and build ownership of our approach to tackling inequalities and ensuring good relations.

Our approach has also recognised the importance of working in partnership with our public sector partners across Lanarkshire and most importantly with the communities which we serve.

I hope that our scheme and the actions highlighted within will demonstrate our real and lasting commitment to promoting race equality.
