All public service providers like North Lanarkshire Council must comply with a number of general duties in relation to race equality, disability equality and gender equality. These are:
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination and harassment
- Promote equality of opportunity
- Promote positive attitudes
- Encourage participation by individuals / groups in public life
In order to meet the objectives of the general duties we have a number of specific duties relating to these three equality strands one of which is that we must Identify functions, policies and services for relevance and carry out an impact assessment.
The Equality Impact Assessment Toolkit will help the council to assess the impact of its functions, policies and services on the different groups of people within North Lanarkshire. It will also enable the council to maximise opportunities to promote equality and good relations between groups.
