Public Transport Information

Public transport information is available from Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, First Glasgow and ScotRail.  All telephone enquiries for public transport timetable information should be directed to Traveline Scotland on 0871 200 22 33.  Local bus timetables are also available from our Libraries Information Services offices in Motherwell, Coatbridge and Cumbernauld.

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) provides a whole range of travel services including local rail, Glasgow underground, dial-a-bus, ferries, buses and ring 'n' ride.  A whole range of tickets and travel passes are available including the Cumbernauld Flexipass, Rail and Sail and the Rural Rover.
SPT also administers a Concessionary Travel scheme for elderly and disabled people on behalf of North Lanarkshire and other west of Scotland Councils.  As of 30 September 2002 elderly and disabled people can get FREE concessionary travel on buses.
 
Young Scot web site provides information on travel discounts for young people, which includes the National Entitlement Card.
 
FirstGroup provides an information service which tells you which of their buses go to particular locations, including hospitals, visitor attractions and sports facilities. 
 
Similarly, ScotRail's web site includes train timetable and ticket information and you can book your journey online.  The National Rail site is the main official website for the UK passenger rail industry and provides journey planning, service alterations, live departure boards and a range of other useful rail related information.
 
The UK Travelline website covers all travel by rail, air, coach, bus, ferry, metro and tram within the UK, (including the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Northern Ireland) and between the UK and Ireland. Plus all rail, ferry and coach travel between the UK and mainland Europe.  It includes timetables, fares, ticket-types, passenger facilities and lots more.
 
The Transport Direct website is the only website that offers information for door-to-door travel for both public transport and car journeys around Britain. Their aim is to provide you with comprehensive, easy-to-use travel information to help you plan your journeys effectively and efficiently.

The 3 closest airport to North Lanarkshire are Glasgow, Prestwick International and Edinburgh.  Each of their websites provides information on flight timetables, arrivals, bookings etc. You can slo use the airport guides below for more information.
