There are two major transport planning portals available for you to use to plan your journey. These can be split depernding on what information you need and over what distance you journey is over.
For journeys within Scotland using Public Transport - Travelline Scotland is ideal for your needs
For longer journeys or for multi-modal trips Transport Direct would be the best option.
Travelline Scotland
Traveline Scotland is a partnership between Transport Operators and Local Authorities who contribute funds, information and expertise towards its day to day running.
The aim is to provide everyone with up to date, accurate, impartial and understandable information on all Public Transport services within Scotland and from Scotland to major destinations in other parts of the U.K.
Start up and development funding was provided by Scottish Executive.
Traveline Scotland is one of eleven partnerships across the U.K. which, together, deliver the National Traveline Service. Journey Planners for other parts of the U.K. can also be accessed from the home page.
Transport Direct
Transport Direct has been developed on behalf of the Department for Transport to offer you travel information for journeys to and from destinations of your choice. It incorporates multiple types of travel such as walking, car, taxi, bus, ferry an even air travel to any location in the UK. Linking journeys from your door step to your exact destination.
Transport Direct deals with....
- Over 2,500 rail stations, 330,000 bus stops, 72 airports
- 3 million postcodes
- 27 million private private addresses (including yours) and points of interest
- Infinite number of potential journey opportunities
All from approximately 230 different data sources.
Using the online mapping service you can see the location of each and every bus stop in the UK. These are accurate to within 1m of it's actual location, so you can always find the correct bus stop for your journey.
Real time accident and incident information for roads, rail and airports is available and details how this could affect your personal journey.
