North Lanarkshire's Car Sharing Scheme for Residents

North Lanarkshire Council is taking steps in support of the Scottish Executive campaign 'Choose Another Way', by introducing a free Car Sharing Scheme for Residents.

This scheme is one of several proposed to give road users an alternative to single ocupancy car travel, which should assist in reducing traffic levels throughout the Council and save on your travelling costs, both as a driver or a passenger.

One of the most helpful features recently added to the scheme is the Quick Search Facility enabling the user to see how many people are registered within the same area, how many registered journeys are recorded for these members and what the latest destinations are. All this information is displayed simply by searching a town name or postcode. This allows a prospective new member to estimate how successful they might be in finding a car sharing match - even before they register!

As well as reducing your travel costs, the scheme will assist in reducing congestion and pollution around North Lanarkshire and will ease pressure on our overloaded parking facilities.

The specialist software has been provided by Liftshare, the UK's no.1 car-sharing company. Liftshare has extensive experience of setting up car-sharing schemes and has established more than 200 schemes across the UK for a range of clients.

You can access the 'North Lanarkshire's Car Sharing Scheme for Residents' from both work and home. You can also choose whether to search for lifts with other residents of North Lanarkshire, other schemes or from the whole liftshare database, which contains over 1 million journeys, registered by over 40,000 members.

To use the scheme, visit Liftshare to register your journey details. The system will then tell you of other people who live near you and with whom you can share the daily journey to and from work, shops, leisure centres etc., as well as the costs of travel.
