Road Safety Education & Training - Exhibitions & Campaigns

Exhibitions and Displays

The Road Safety staff is involved in events ranging from large-scale exhibitions such as the Motor Show held in the SECC to simple static window or foyer displays. The usual information leaflets accompany these displays.

Environmental Projects

The impact of traffic on the environment in terms of pollution, noise and congestion is causing considerable concern. Efforts are being made from international down to local level to address the problem. The Road Safety staff is seeking to contribute to improving the environment in a number of different projects. The Safer Routes to School projects aims to encourage walking and cycling to school. The Walking Bus project is being investigated as another possibility of reducing the volume of traffic on the school journey. The Education Dept. encourages children to cycle to school and the Road Safety staff supports this. A special resource box is available to schools giving details of ideas of traffic studies that can be undertaken by pupils involved in an environmental project.

Special Weeks/Days

A number of special events are promoted by various organisations and the Road Safety staff promotes these in North Lanarkshire. National Road Safety Week, Walk to School Week – including International Walk to School Day, Child Safety Week and No Speed Day are a few examples of the type of activities which are supported. These special events lend themselves to media publicity and key issues such as speeding, child safety seats, etc have all gained considerable coverage.

Media/Publicity Campaigns

With the increase in various forms of media there are many opportunities to publicise a range of Road Safety issues. There are 10 local newspapers covering North Lanarkshire and these are used on a regular basis both to highlight concerns and report on promotional events. Local and national radio and television are interested from time to time in our activities.
