Residential Parking Options : Council Tenants - Application to build a Driveway

Tenants may apply to build a driveway in their own garden and should complete an application for Alterations and Improvements. The following general guidelines apply:

Cars and Vans

  • Parking for cars and car based vans (roadworthy vehicles) only - maximum 6 feet high.
  • Parking in front gardens will only be considered where there is no alternative available.
  • If gates are installed they should be erected at the opening in the front fence and must not open on to the footpath.
  • Permission to lower the kerb should be obtained from Environmental Services.
  • The parking area must be properly surfaced in a suitable material such as monoblock, tarmac, concrete or slabs.

Caravans

  • A caravan may be permitted for parking only;
  • it should not be used as a residence, for business purposes, for workshops or for keeping pets/animals; and
  • it should be roadworthy and in good maintenance order.
