Fly Tipping - Public Health

North Lanarkshire Council in association with the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and Strathclyde Police are committed to ensure that the Environment of North Lanarkshire is fully protected and kept free from illegally dumped refuse.

Cleansing Services in association with the Environmental Health section  and external agencies undertake surveillance operations of known dumping sites with the intention of obtaining evidence to pursue prosecution of offenders.

Incidents of Fly Tipping can be reported by using the "Contact Us" box that appears on the right-hand side of your screen.   Details of the location will be recorded and arrangements for the material to be removed.

If you witness fly tipping please do not approach the offenders but pass as much information onto us e.g. description and registration number of vehicle etc in order that we can pursue the incident.   Your calls will be treated in confidence.

In the financial year 2000/2001 Cleansing Services dealt with over 2,000 reported incidents of fly tipping, removing in excess of 10,000 tonnes of waste from roadside.  All this cost taxpayers in North Lanarkshire approximately £600,000 including £140,000 in landfill tax.
