The problem of dog fouling is a concern throughout North Lanarkshire. It is not only a nuisance but also a potential danger and health threat.
As a responsible dog owner, what can you do to help prevent this problem: |
 |
- If you have a garden, teach your dog to "go" there before you leave your home.
- Always carry the means to clear up after your dog.
- Every time your dog fouls, "bag it and bin it".
- Never let your dog out alone.
Remember, dog fouling is an offence and you could be prosecuted and fined if you fail to follow these simple rules.
The Dog Fouling (Scotland) Act now makes it an offence not to clear up after your dog. Offenders face a fixed penalty of £40 rising to £60 if not paid within 28 days. Offenders can also be reported to the Procurator Fiscal and may be fined up to £500 if convicted.

Poop Scoop
North Lanarkshire Council provides FREE poop scoops and bags, we have already distributed over 20,000 poop scoops and in excess of 3 million fouling bags since the launch of the campaign.
These dog fouling kits are available from all Libraries, Police Stations, Housing and Environmental Health offices as well as numerous licensed Pet Shops and Veterinary Clinics within North Lanarkshire.
Using a "poop scoop" couldn't be easier. Just follow these simple steps:
- Grip poop scoop and push to the bottom of the plastic bag
- Place the open jaws over the excrement
- Press the jaws together, trapping the excrement inside the bag
- Turn in an upward position, turning plastic bag inside out.
- This leaves the excrement inside the bag.
- Excrement inside bag, ready for disposal.0.110.
