What are First Stop Shops?
If you prefer to visit local offices, our First Stop Shops let you access a whole range of council and other public services, rather than have to go to each departmental office.
We developed the shops as part of our North Lanarkshire Direct project for modernising and improving access to services. There are 12 operational First Stop Shops and you can view location maps for each them.

What information can I get from the First Stop Shops?
You can find a wide range of information about council and other public services, and can access some council services directly. For example, you can:
-
report roads, footpath and lighting defects
-
get advice on applications for housing benefits and council or rent rebates
-
request special uplifts and report litter problems
-
request maintenance or repairs to a council house
-
apply for help through the Garden Assistance Scheme
-
collect and submit application forms for all council services
-
find information about council meetings, councillors' surgeries, council vacancies and the electoral register.
There is a cash collection service at the shops (except Airdrie where this service is still available as usual from the housing and finance office in Bank Street). This means you can make rent and council tax payments and pay other invoices at your local First Stop Shop.
Staff at the First Stop Shops will also be able to refer you to services such as debt and money advice, community care and health services, consumer advice and public transport.

Can I access council services direct at the First Stop Shops?
Yes. Staff at the First Stop Shops will use a computer system which connects all departments. This means that you can access different services in one visit to the shop and you don't have to contact different offices. So, if you report a repair that needs done to your house, that will be sent to the housing department, added to their schedule of work and they will get back to you to update you on what is happening with your report.
