How to Start Your Group

Many people come together when they have an issue or concern they feel should be tackled, this could be a particular neighbourhood with several problems, ie poor housing, youth crime and so on, or a particular interest group covering the Council area, ie Carers issues, Credit Unions etc.

Support and Advice

Community Learning and Development, based in Learning and Leisure Services, is here to assist communities throughout the Council area. They can give specialised support to set up and help organise local groups and assist them in achieving their aims.

Here are some of the things we do:

  • Help organise public meetings, conferences and community events.
  • Assist with Fund raising.
  • Research and provide information.
  • Organise meetings with local service deliverers and politicians.
  • Provide groups with initial administration and support.
  • Give advice on how the Local Authority and other agencies work.
  • And much more.

Committee and Office Bearers

Community Learning and Development Workers can provide Committee Skills training for newly formed community groups, we work closely with the elected office bearers in their roles.

We can also assist in helping groups to draw up their constitution.
