The Cleansing Services Section of Environmental Services undertakes the uplift and disposal of Domestic waste throughout North Lanarkshire.
The method and frequency of collection will vary depending on the type and location of your domestic property, with most households using Wheeled Bins.
Under Section 46 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 Local Authorities are empowered to stipulate the method of collection and charge for the receptacle in which it is placed. North Lanarkshire policy is for a wheeled bin collection service (in most areas) and for all replacement bins to be provided at the cost of the owner of the house. Click on Purchase of New Wheeled Bin for further information on costs and how to place your order. The Council will replace any bins that are damaged or lost into the collection vehicle during collection operations.
Sack Collections
In areas covered by sack collections an annual supply of Plastic Domestic Refuse Sacks will be issued to each Household by Cleansing Services. Cleansing Services will uplift full sacks from the designated collection point on the appropriate collection day.
Bulk Bins
Residents in Multi-occupancy buildings e.g. Tower Blocks, Flatted Properties etc may be serviced by bulk bins usually located in a designated bin Store. Residents should place all household refuse within these bins. Items that cannot be placed in these bins should be placed neatly beside the bins or at the designated place and a special uplift call placed. Click on Special Uplifts for further information including contact details.
Wheeled Bins
Residents covered by this service should place their bins out for collection for 7.00am on their designated collection day. Bins should be placed on the footpath or other designated area and retrieved from the collection point as soon, as is practicable following collection.
Only waste contained within the wheeled bin will be uplifted, with the lid no more than slightly ajar. Excess waste can be reported as a Special Uplift and should not be placed beside your wheeled bin on collection day. Click on Special Uplifts for further information, including contact details.
Wheeled bins are available in a range of sizes depending on your circumstances
- 140Lt – Suitable for single occupancy
- 240Lt – Suitable for most households
- 360Lt – Suitable for the larger family
Wheeled bins will normally be collected on a weekly basis on the same day each week.
