The collection of Household Waste is covered by the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Under Section 46 of this legislation all local authorities are entitled to stipulate the method of refuse collection and place other restrictions upon the collection of domestic waste.
North Lanarkshire Council has adopted the provisions of this legislation and requires residents to either provide, or have provided for them by their landlord, a receptacle suitable to accommodate their weekly waste. |
Wheeled bins suitable for this purpose are available from Cleansing Services. Further information can be obtained by using the "Contact Us" box that appears on the right-hand side of your screen. However, for operational reasons, a sack collection operates in some rural and other areas of North Lanarkshire.
Once supplied the wheeled bins become the property of the occupier of the property with the responsibility for its replacement in the event of theft or acts of vandalism etc being that of the owner or occupier of the property. For rented properties the responsibility may rest with the Landlord, confirmation of arrangements in such cases should be checked prior to any requests being made to us.
Collection of Domestic Waste will normally be on a weekly basis, on the same day each week. Wheeled bins should be placed at kerbside, or other designated collection point by 7.00am on your designated collection day.
The lid of the wheeled bin should be closed, and should be able to be manoeuvred to the collection vehicle without requiring to be manually lifted. Heavy objects such as garden soil, bricks, stones etc should not be placed in the Bin as the weight may damage the lifting mechanism of the collection vehicle. Bins that are "failed" by the lifting mechanism will be returned to kerbside and the resident requested to reduce the weight of the Bin.
Excess waste should not be placed out with the bin, but as with heavy items mentioned above a request for a special uplift should be placed. Click on Special Uplifts for contact details and further information on what can be uplifted.
Wheeled bins are available in three different sizes
- Small (120 Litre) suitable for a single occupant
- Standard (240 Litre) suitable for most households
- Large (360 Litre) suitable for larger households.
(Cleansing Services may offer a Blue or Brown Bin for recyclable materials outwith the trial areas rather than issue a second normal or larger bin)
