Improvements to Kerbside Recycling Service

North Lanarkshire Council have introduced major improvements to the blue bin kerbside recycling service.  You will be able to recycle more than 60% of your household waste. This new system means that lots of space will be freed up in your residual waste bin.

The changes were introduced in TWO phases.

Phase One - Cumbernauld, Kilsyth, Stepps, Moodiesburn and surrounding villages along with Coatbridge, Airdrie and surrounding villages.

Phase Two - Motherwell, Bellshill, Wishaw, Shotts and surrounding villages

Both Phase One and Two now implemented and operating

Along with the paper material, you can now also place the following materials in your blue bin;

Material

Action required

Clean cardboard (all types)

Please flatten  (if possible)

Clean food and drinks cans

Please rinse out

Aerosol cans

Need to be empty

Drinks cartons

(Tetra Pak type material)

Please rinse out and flatten (if possible)

Clean plastic bottles

Please rinse out and flatten (if possible)

Clean plastic pots and tubs

Please rinse out and flatten (if possible)

Clean plastic food trays

Please rinse out

Textiles (clothes, towels etc)

Residents are reminded not to use plastic bags for material placed into blue bins.

To accommodate the increased levels of material for recycling the collection frequency of your green/grey bin for residual waste, requires to be changed and will fall into line with much of the rest of Scotland.

Your green/grey bin for residual waste and blue bin for recycling material will be collected on alternate weeks. In other words, your blue bin collection day will become the same day as your green/grey bin, but will be collected week about, see table below
