Area Registration Service Customer Update Edition 3 2007/08 - Genealogy

Genealogy is a very popular hobby world wide.  People often want to learn about their ancestors, discover where they came from and create their own family tree.  The registration service from all of our eight offices in North Lanarkshire can access information about your family from 1855 to the current day through research of the statutory records of Births, Deaths, Marriages and Civil Partnerships, including the Old Parish Registers held on the DIGROS system (Digital Imaging of the Genealogical Records of Scotland's People).  We can also access Scotland's census records which provide further information on individuals and households from 1871.

What services do we currently provide?
We can provide you with

  • information regarding a specific person

  • assisted searches of statutory indexes of Births Deaths and Marriages, including Old Parish Records
  • assisted searches of the detailed records of Births, Deaths and Marriages
  • Census Records
  • Divorce Records
  • family trees

Our flagship project at the Bellshill Family History Centre aims, in partnership with the General Register Office of Scotland, to provide you with the ability to personally search the public records.  The accommodation is now ready - the adaptations required to the building are complete.  However, a solution to the public access arrangements is currently outstanding and we are working with our partners to achieve a technical solution to public access.  Progress will be reported in future editions.
