NHS Lanarkshire 60th Anniversary Spectacular

Scotland's biggest family to attend Scotland's biggest NHS 60th event.

SCOTLAND'S biggest family will be heading to NHS Lanarkshire's Family Funday on Sunday 22 June. The Simpson family from East Kilbride, who number 13 in total, will be at the event to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the NHS.

The diamond all weather extravaganza is aimed at all families in Lanarkshire to come along and try a series of health activities on the day.

It's entirely free, with free car parking and will be opened by TV and radio funny man – and Motherwell man – Tam Cowan.

Derek Simpson said: "Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the NHS is a wonderful idea and holding a family event to commemorate it, is a fantastic way of doing this. "It's a great way to give families something they can all do together, but the event will also bring communities together from across Lanarkshire."

He continued: "I'm very grateful to the NHS myself as I suffered from asthma when I was younger and spent some time in hospital. So I for one will gladly join in, in this birthday celebration.

"However, our whole family will be making the effort to attend this event."

The Family Funday Sunday, organised by NHS Lanarkshire in partnership with North and South Lanarkshire Leisure Trusts, will take place in an eight-marquee tented village in Strathclyde Park.

Each tent will host demonstrations, competitions and promotions including fitness classes, rowing simulators, a football improvement area, highland games and a climbing wall all available for people to try.

In addition, there will also be dance demonstrations and instructions, a golf simulator to practice your swing and a play area which will include an inflatable slide, bouncy castle and obstacle course.

Throughout the day people will also be able to get healthy living advice, health checks, information on stress/mental health, sun awareness, money advice, fruit tasters, hand hygiene, and smoking cessation tips.

There will also be free fruit and drink and demonstrations on how to make healthy

and delicious cocktails and smoothies.

NHS Lanarkshire's employee director Hugh Sweeney is overseeing the whole event.

He said: "It's great that Scotland's biggest family is planning to come to our Funday Sunday. We would love all families in Lanarkshire to also take the time to come and enjoy these NHS birthday celebrations."

"This is a one-off event and we believe it's the biggest NHS birthday celebration in Scotland. It really is a day not to be missed."

NHS Lanarkshire's Diamond Anniversary family Sunday Fun Day takes place in Strathclyde Park on Sunday June 22 between 11.00 am to 4pm.
