58% of respondents indicated that they live locally and a further 26% were on a day trip. Only 8% were on holiday and a further 7% did not respond to this question. These responses reflect those in previous periods where the majority of respondents have been from the local area and on day trips.

The majority of respondents (54%) stated that there reason for visiting was for a general visit. The next most common reason (20%) was for an event or activity which is an increase in from the last period's figures. However respondents' choosing Local studies as the main reason for their visit has fallen to 13%. 6% of respondents chose "other" as an option all stating that their reason was educational.

Technopolis, the Temporary Exhibition and the Tower all proved poplar with 78%, 72% and 74% of respondents choosing each category respectfully. 36% of respondents also stated that they visited Local studies. Each of these figures is higher than the last period. 22% of respondents stated that they visited all 4 areas of the museum which is on a par with last period's figures. 4% of respondents did not answer this question.

The majority of respondents (54%) stated that there visit lasted over 1 hour. A further 40% visited for 30mins – 1 hour. Only 4% visited for less then 30mins. 4% of respondents did not answer this question.

As compared to last periods responses this shows a fall in a number of categories i.e. poster/ leaflet, live locally & "other" however there is a spread of answers across all categories. Although a percentage drop from last periods figures Living locally remains one of the most common choices (26%) although word of month has overtaken this period with 34% of respondent choosing this option. There has been an increase also in respondents choosing radio, newspapers and website. 6% of respondents choose "Other" which they specified as being school (2%) Just passing (2%) & NLC map (2%)
Did you visit the local studies library as part of your visit?
22% of respondents visited local studies and 64% did not- a drop from the figures in the last period's figures. A further 14% of respondents did not answer the question.
Of those who visited local studies the majority (56%) said it was there 1st visit and 36% stated that they were infrequent visitors. No respondents stated that they were regular or periodical visitors. Only a total of 12% chose this option in the last period's figures so perhaps this is an untapped market. 8% of respondents did not answer this question.

The most popular choice of this section was family history (36%) An additional 18% of respondents choose both photos & maps. No respondents chose books, newspapers or internet. Since the last period this represents a drop in respondents choosing photos and family history but an increase those choosing maps. 28% of respondents did not answer this question which is a level.
What was the reason for not visiting the Local studies room?
Of the 64% who did not visit local studies the most common reason (32%) was that they were unaware of the facility. Additionally 31% stated that they did not have enough time and 13% because it was closed. Only 6% stated that they were not interested and 9% gave other reasons (not specified.) 9% of respondents did not answer this question.

The responses to this question indicate that in general the respondents were very or fairly satisfied with each aspect of the service. All categories received at least a 2% response for fairly or very dissatisfied indicating some room for improvement; however this is an improvement on last period's figures in particular with respect to the shop & exhibitions.
