Address High Road, Motherwell
Motherwell Heritage Centre is a distinctive building in the modern style which first opened its doors in November 1996. It is a Scottish Tourist Board '4-Star' graded visitor attraction.
The main feature of the centre is its 'Technopolis' multi-media display on the heritage of the area from the days of the Romans, through the rise and fall of local heavy industries to the era of present day Motherwell.
The heyday of the traditional industries such as mining, railways and steel production are brought to life through foundry and street scenes, glimpses of domestic life, talking figures and 'hands on' interactive technology.
The Heritage Centre offers a range of Discovery Boxes for loan, and museum workshops for schools that tie in closely with the 5 –14 environmental studies curriculum. Click on School Workshops to find out more.
Facilities On the ground floor is a gallery area which sees some six different exhibitions a year. These are either curated 'in-house' or touring exhibitions from the National Museums of Scotland, the Crafts Council or other organisations. Use the "Contact Us" box that appears on the right-hand side of your screen for details on the exhibition programme and how to book the space.
