The Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 places a duty on local authorities to produce a Core Paths Plan within 3 years of the Act coming into effect (by 9 February 2008). The Plan will show a system of routes known as core paths that are "sufficient for the purpose of providing reasonable access throughout their area."
The North Lanarkshire Draft Core Paths Plan has been produced following two rounds of extensive consultations with land managers, national organisations, local communities and people of all ages and abilities who go walking, cycling, horse riding and canoeing within North Lanarkshire.

The closing date for comments and objections on the plan is the 3 May 2008.
