Answers:

1. How many items can I borrow from the library?

   Adults can borrow up to 16 items, children up to 12 items - some items such as videos have a lower level - click on Joining the Library for further information.

2. I missed the Mobile Library this week - can I return my items to a branch library?
   Yes - items may be returned to any North Lanarkshire branch or mobile library - for a list of branches click on Local Libraries

3. How old do I need to be to join the library?
   You can join the library at any age, even at one day old - click on Joining the Library for further information

4. Can I renew my items if I can't finish them before they are due back?
   You can renew your items up to 6 times by phone or by visiting the library, provided no other borrower wants them

5. Can I request a particular item?
   Yes - fill in a postcard available at your local library and we will try to obtain the item for you and notify you when it is available for collection

6. Can you get me items not in stock?
   Yes we have a requests service whereby we can obtain items not in stock from other libraries or purchase new where available - discuss your requirements with a member of our library staff

8. Can housebound people have items delivered to their homes?
   Yes - the Outside Services Section operates a delivery service to residents who, due to age, illness, disability or infirmity, are unable to visit a library - contact our Outside Services Manager on 01236 434847 to check your eligibility

9. How long can I keep the items when I use the Mobile Library service?
   Items are issued for four weeks - mobile libraries do not charge for items which are returned late

12. I registered at a branch library but would like to know if I can use the same ticket on the Mobile Library that visits my area?
    Yes - North Lanarkshire library ticket can be used in any of our branches or mobile libraries - click on Timetable for information on where and when the mobile library will visit your area

13. What areas does the mobile library visit?
    We have give mobile library vans which visit housing estates, sheltered housing complexes, villages and outlying areas throughout the district - click on Mobile Library Timetable for further information

14. Do you have anything available for the visually impaired to borrow?
    Yes - we lend Large Print books and Talking Books

15. Is it possible to get a longer loan to cover my holiday?
    You can apply for a holiday extension to cover the period you are on holiday

16. How much will it cost me if my book is overdue?

    Fines are charged at a rate of 35p per book per week or per part of the week and up to a maximum of £3.50 - children do not pay fines on their overdue books - click on Fines for more detailed information

17. Can my child access the Internet in the library?
    Children are allowed to access the Internet provided they have had an Internet User agreement form completed by a parent or guardian who has read and agreed to follow our Internet Use Policy - these forms are available in all libraries
