Local History Room

Airdrie's Local History Discovery Room is a reference and research facility run by the Council's Museums and Heritage Service. It is based in the Airdrie Library in Wellwynd and staffed during library opening hours by a Local Studies Officer and an assistant.

Facilities

The room has a reference library, the Monklands Map collection, The Monklands photographic collection, family history sources and local newspapers dating back to 1847. Other facilities within the room include microfilm readers with a print capability, microfiche readers and photocopier.

The Museum also runs the Archive Centre at Lenziemill, Cumbernauld, and another local studies room within Motherwell Heritage Centre.

Opening Hours

The Local Studies Room is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday 9.00am - 7.30pm.

Wednesdays and Saturdays 9.00am - 12.00 mid day.

Local History Staff will be present to assist with research between 9.00am - 5.00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Booking

Booking is available for use of microfilm and microfiche readers.

Admission

Admission is free.

Call Local Studies Officer to discuss current rates for assisted researches.

Copies of photographs can be made. Price depends on size and quantity, please discuss your requirements with the Local Studies Officer.
