The North Calder Heritage Trail is a partnership project involving North Lanarkshire Council, Scottish Natural Heritage, Central Scotland Countryside Trust and Lanarkshire Development Agency.
Explore this new 10 mile heritage trail across North Lanarkshire. It starts at Summerlee Heritage Park "Scotland's noisiest museum" and follows the Monkland Canal and North Calder Water to Hillend Reservoir, east of Airdrie.
The Monkland Canal took nearly 24 years to build between 1770 and 1793. It was Scotland's most profitable Canal.
