Biodiversity priority species

There are 391 priority species in the UK.  These are species that are globally threatened and/or species which are declining rapidly in the UK, by more than 50% in the last 25 years, 17 of which are found in North Lanarkshire.

4 of these UK species have had species action plans written for them and in addition to these UK priority species,  9 local priority species have been identified and have had species action plans written for them.   These local priority species were selected by the Steering Group in November 1998 due to their decline or local importance.
