Biodiversity habitats
There have been 45 UK priority habitats identified. They are to fulfill one or more of the following criteria.
-
Habitats for which the UK has international obligations.
-
Habitats at risk, such as those with a high rate of decline over the last 20 years, or which are rare.
-
Areas, which may be functionally critical.
-
Areas important for key species.
North Lanarkshire has 16 of these habitats and two have habitat action plans written for them. A further two broad habitats have been identified as being of local priority due to their linkage of a variety of habitats and importance for a number of NLBAP species.
