Facilities and services
Victoria Community Facility occupies the part of the Victoria Primary School building that was previously the School Dental Service. The building dates from the 1930's and it continues to house Victoria Primary School. The Community Facility, however, has only been operational since 1982. Victoria Community Facility is overseen by a users committee – the Whinhall Community Association – who run a varied programme that includes the Gaelic playgroup and parents & tots; Irish dancing, Boy's Brigade, the sewing Group karate and the embroiders guild.
The Facility and the school share use of a downstairs hall so in the evenings and at weekends the hall is part of the centre accommodation. The hall can accommodate up to 250 adults seated and it has a stage area.
Upstairs there are two large group rooms, an office space and a crèche room.
Downstairs is a suite of Community Facility Offices, a lounge area with a small kitchen facility and toilets.
The facility is open on Mondays to Thursdays from 8.45am to 4.45pm and on a Friday from 8.45am to 3.45pm. The facility is available for lets in the evenings and weekends by prior booking only.
Transport
Victoria Community Facility is accessible by public transport and bus stops can be found on both Aitchison Street and Alexander Street (although the latter is at the bottom of a fairly steep hill). For patrons travelling by car there is a car park designated for the facility half way up Queen Victoria Street. Disabled access
Victoria Community Facility has a ramped entrance so access to the downstairs is fairly easy. It also has a very limited car parking area at this entrance. However we regret to inform patrons that there are no disabled toilets in this venue and there is no disabled access to the upstairs.
