Untitled 1

Mixed Media 1993

Blairgrove Shopping Centre, Coatbridge

Working with a variety of – but largely abandoned – materials, Stephen Skrynka's projects seek to deal with the energy and memory which are trapped within people and objects.

The Blairgrove Sculpture was developed in response to the life and work of Janet Hamilton (1795 – 1873) the Coatbridge poet, whose writing evokes a strong sense of the town in the nineteenth century. Throughout her life, Janet Hamilton never travelled far from Langloan and many of her poems and prose works reflect the changes she observed in the area.

Parking for this artwork can be found in the shopping centre car park off Bank Street or the Time Capsule car park, Buchanan Street.
