Coatbridge Sentinel

by Arthur Watson

Mixed Media 1996

Roundabout at the junction of South Circular Road and Main Street, Coatbridge

Like the "Airdrie Sentinel" this artwork links the town's motto of "Laborare est orare" (to work is to proay) with both traditional heraldic emblems and historical images drawn from the photographic archive at Summerlee Heritage Park ( the Tower of Flames and male and female factory workers).

It was always the artist's intention that both Sentinels should be able to relate closely in visual and stylistic terms in order to demonstrate links between the two communities.

"Coatbridge Sentinel" is part of the Sentinel Art Project.

Parking for this artwork can be found at the Asda car park, off Main Street.
